NYMF Fashion

Triin Kärblane - NYMF Fashion brand designer and owner. Based in Estonia.

From one side like an unearthly fairy flying in cosmic spheres, sprinkling shimmering dust around her and from the other side standing so grounded and aligned and building a totally new Universe inside and outside of her.

Triin is a really blessed one. She has found her passion and dedicated her life to that. So the layer between her and NYMF is very thin one. Together they have had a really metamorphic journey over the last 17 years and more than 50 collections where a young fragile nymph evolves into a powerful Dragonfly Goddess. Every single collection has been like a gateway to experience different feminine archetypes, icons, fairies, spirits or goddesses within, absorbing their power and wisdom and translating it to the language of Dresses.

Triin is like a bridge between the visible and invisible world. So everything that happens in NYMF is actually the reflection of Triin's experience. And everything she has been experiencing could be forwarded. By creating the Dresses as Portals.

The past few years she has been working especially with ancient goddess and priestess energies  and she believes that these are the qualities that all women carry within, but most of them are hidden. And so much power and freedom is locked in there. Triin believes that the energies could be activated again. So this is her mission here - To awaken the Goddess within her and within  others who are ready for that.

Although Triin has been collaborating with the best creative teams in Estonia and abroad and had rather been behind the scenes, for the later years she has become as the main model of her brand. It hasn't been an ego trip, rather it has been the purest way to embody the Goddess energy she has been bringing through.

What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design?

To look back, my career in fashion design was already set in my childhood.  I spent lots of time in my grandmother's sewing room, scrolling through the fashion magazines. At that time in Estonia, we had a soviet period and we didn’t have almost anything to buy to wear, but thanks to my grandmother, me and my sister we were always dressed like perfect dolls. With all the frills, laces, and appliques. So I have always used to be dressed differently. And it has inspired me to express my world differently. So I have always known that fashion design would be my passion and lifestyle.

Can you tell us about your journey in the fashion industry so far?

My plan has never been to be a famous fashion designer or businesswoman in the fashion industry. I have always just wanted to do things I love and everything else has just happened to me. In 2007 I started my NYMF brand alone from a tiny atelier room,  creating quite extraordinary bespoke dresses for my clients.

Then collections started to emerge from me, spirited photoshoots and bold fashion shows. I was totally careless, playful and very productive. To look back I was like an explosion of creativity. After some time I started to understand that with every collection I am experiencing and expressing a new archetype of the woman in me. There was a long period creating 4 collections in a year so 4 rebirths in one year for me. I was like in an accelerator and it got quite intense for me.

2018 I finally burned out, decided to close my business, and planned to spend the rest of my life in Bali. For about 8 months I lived there like a priestess, absorbing their local culture and rituals. But the creative part inside of me couldn't stop and life carried me back to my studio in Estonia.

This was a major rebirth for me - everything changed, my brand changed - I had always known that my brand name NYMF symbolized the Ancient Greek Nymphs, but with the new symbol - Dragonfly - brought a totally new point of view. Like in nature - a Dragonfly before emerging into a beautiful dragonfly, is a small hidden nymph under the water. Suddenly I understood that these 10 years before were not an end but just a foreplay.

My creation made a huge upgrade - it became luxurious, full of details, embellishments and the first time I understood consciously that I'm creating not just beautiful dresses but Portals and bringing through the goddess energies. "Portal" collection gave me the wings that were flying NYMF even to Milan Fashion Week in February 2020. I was at the highest point of my career but the day after my show started the covid period in Milan. At first it was a big shock and fall for me but soon I understood that I had been given time to build my brand and myself more stronger.

So the last few years have been a building period for NYMF and myself. To have new solid foundations, structures and alignment. I have been building a new business model around me so I don't need to fit in something that isn't working for me. I have been bringing together all my professional skills and my higher mission, creating a new rebuildable base collection. The Dragonfly has emerged into a Dragonfly Goddess. And I’m really curious about the next chapter for me and NYMF.

What challenges have you faced in establishing your brand, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges for me has been the fashion world cycle speed and being a free-flow creator in it. I have understood that true inspiration can't be forced and it comes in its right timing and it's not connected with the seasonal show dates. My solution to this was to create a more sustainable, timeless and re-buildable collection that is not connected with any year or season.

The second challenge has been brand growth without losing my freedom and originality. So I have chosen to grow organically without any big jumps, external influences and investments. Just step by step.

And the third main challenge has been finding the right client segment or a "gateway". Especially when my creation is in constant upgrade. But now I understand that of course, I have to take actual actions towards my goals but the very important thing is not focusing on finding the gateways but rather working with my own inner alignment. Because energy and frequency of a designer or a brand owner are the actual magnets for the new opportunities and clients.

How do you balance creativity with the business side of running a fashion brand?

Balancing the creativity and business side is the endless cosmic dance between my inner feminine and masculine energy. And to be honest, I have to be very conscious to notice that one is not taking the other's room away. They need to dance like a couple fully in love.

And in a practical world, I separate their timings. So when it's creation time, then my feminine side could play and go crazy, this is not time for analyzing or math, the masculine side could only hold a space for her. And when it's action time, then my inner masculine energy could shine in its alignment and building new structures. But when making big decisions, I have to be honest, my inner feminine with her inner knowledge and gut feeling is the smartest one and she should be heard and trusted.

What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers looking to start their own brand?

I would say that start doing just what you love and everything else would follow.

How would you describe the overall aesthetic and style of your brand?

My latest "New Me" collection is like a new base for a woman, with pure values and high standards.  I have started to create a timeless collection that gives an opportunity to build a new wardrobe layer by layer over the years. The style enables women to embody their  femininity, sensuality and elegance. And the luxurious silk lets women worship themselves as goddesses every single day.

In my previous creations, I have used lots of patterns and details, but the latest one is really pure with solid colors - it gives an opportunity to start playing with the different pieces, layers, accessories and jewelry. So in addition to the garments we have launched also our Fish leather belt collection and signature silver jewelry collection.

And so much more to be coming...

How do you decide on the themes for your collections?

When I'm creating a collection, I'm like an avatar, a channel or a vessel. Never knowing what the outcome is. The only thing I have to do is to decide to go on a journey, trust and commit. The specific energy starts flowing into me, I'm starting to embody it and translate it to the language of dresses. And it's happening almost all the time - when I see the final photoshoot or show, the gratitude tears start to fall from my eyes - that wow, we brought something so beautiful and powerful through!

Where do you find inspiration for your collections?

My passion is traveling and sacred places around the world. They could be places like ancient ceremonial sites, holy buildings or their remains and really powerful places in nature. I have understood that I have been guided to places where the ancient goddess cultures have been worshiped a long time ago. And visiting these places is like an activator for me and always gives me a push to inspiration. Not by the visuals of these places but the energies they carry within.
