Can you tell us about your journey into the fashion industry and how you became a successful model/blogger?

I did my first professional photoshoot in 2020 which led to me starting my first modeling portfolio. I then started submitting to magazines to be featured on front covers of Blaze Magazine, Envy Magazine and Mex Magazine. I then joined Talent Inc which is a workshop, showcase and award ceremony for actors, models and singers. Afterward, I walked in my first runway show for TME (The Model Experience).

What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion and how do you stay motivated?

I was told that I have the look so I decided to give it a shot but I've always had a thing for fashion because of my taste. I’m motivated by the art of fashion due to the fact that I'm an artist myself. I’m a creative person so fashion plays a big part in who I am as an artist.

As a fashion model/blogger, how do you keep up with the latest trends and maintain your own unique style?

It started with a clothing line called supreme (a skateboard name brand clothing company. Supreme collaborates with other name brands like The North Face, Stone Island, Burberry, Jordan, and Nike. Supreme drops multiple styles of clothing which led to me keeping up with the latest trends and maintaining my own unique style.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a successful fashion model/blogger?

You gotta stand out. Fashion modeling is all about being creative, unique and standing out above everyone else because you are not the only one trying to be a fashion model. You gotta bring something to the table that others don’t.

Can you describe your creative process when putting together a photoshoot or blog post?

When putting together a photoshoot, you gotta have a moodboard. Moodboards make it easier for you to remember your poses and ideas for the shoot. I like coming up with creative portraits, headshots and full body shots for the shoot. It’s always good to have multiple poses and styles printed out so you don’t forget while shooting.

How do you balance your personal style with the expectations of clients or readers?

You gotta know what people want to see and at the same time, you gotta know what engages people to want to see you which is not an easy task but important to figure out. The key is bringing something to the table that you know people will be interested in engaging with but at the same time not bringing something to the table that’s already been seen multiple times.

What do you think are some of the biggest challenges facing the fashion industry today and how do you see it evolving in the future?

Social media! Modeling was originally made for taller people but now because of social media, people of all shapes and sizes are showcasing themselves online on Instagram, Tiktok and Facebook. Social media is opening more doors to see more people’s work of art.

How do you use your platform as a fashion model/blogger to advocate for important social and environmental causes?

They’re a lot of people who are being brought together to form small communities just by being fashion models. People of all sizes and shapes who had trouble believing in themselves are now around others like themselves who are following the same dream. These kind of communities help build people’s confidence.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable or challenging experience you've had as a model/blogger and how you overcame it?

Because I'm 5’7” inches, I was only going to do print modeling because I felt like I wasn't tall enough to do any other kind of modeling.  The fact that I wasn’t 5’11”made me second guess wanting to be a model. I never thought that I would do fashion shows but because of my passion, motivation and hustle, It led to an audition for an upscale runway show for NYFW.

What role do you think diversity and inclusivity play in the fashion industry and how do you strive to promote these values in your work?

Diversity is needed because it brings us all together. I like that we all have something to bring to the table. I strive to promote these values by using my creativity and art to set trends and come up with better ideas that can take the fashion industry to the next level.

Can you discuss your thoughts on the relationship between fashion and sustainability?

Fashion to me is art and it has sustainability because it’s not illegal. We’re free to express ourselves artistically, build relationships, do good business but most importantly, bring people together in one community and industry.

How do you think technology is changing the fashion industry and your role as a model/blogger? I

found Blaze magazine, Envy magazine and Mex magazine through social media. Technology makes it much easier for us to market ourselves, promote ourselves and build our experience. The fashion industry is changing due to people having social media platforms to show off their work and ideas.

How do you stay authentic and true to yourself in an industry that can sometimes prioritize appearance over personality?

Being authentic to me is having a story that people can relate to but also, having an identity is being true to yourself. Having a story to tell is great because people gravitate to you because they can relate to the story you’re telling. People laugh at jokes because of the truth behind the joke and people relate to you because of the realness behind your story.

Can you talk about any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're excited about?

I’m excited for NYFW which is coming up in February. I’ll be walking the runway for the RX Runway and Runway 7. I’m also rejuvenating my acting career and signed with a casting agency and talent agency. I’ll also be collaborating with Talent Inc again this  summer as a VIP member.

How do you approach working with brands or designers whose values may not align with your own?

I’ve worked with a designer before for a runway fashion show. It didn’t seem as if she was really passionate about pushing her brand forward but that didn’t stop me from showcasing her brand to the highest regard. She seemed very happy with my motivation and style to push her brand but I could tell she had a bit of anxiety but I still showed out for her brand.

Can you share any tips for maintaining a healthy work-life balance as a fashion model/blogger?

Never have high expectations for things that haven't happened yet because if it doesn’t go your way, you will be disappointed. I live life off of hope and faith because our lives are based on uncertainty. Focus on what you can control and whatever’s out of your control, leave it up to faith. That’s how I maintain a healthy work life.

How do you see the role of fashion evolving in society and culture, particularly in relation to self-expression and identity?

People are showcasing their talents in the comfort of their homes. Social media has allowed so many people to express themselves in many ways. People are actually becoming stars and millionaires without having to sign with big agencies and labels. People are independently succeeding in life which is a great deal.

Can you discuss any personal style icons or influences that have inspired your own fashion journey?

Jordan sneakers! I love Jordans but so many people wear them so because of that, I wanted to be different. It made me wanna come up with my own style and separate myself from people who are common. Whenever I see people doing the same stuff all the time, it makes me wanna do something different because I’m different.

How do you think the pandemic has impacted the fashion industry and what changes do you see on the horizon?

The pandemic had people working from home so because of that, social media became the way of marketing and creating better ideas. Also, people who weren’t able to purchase tickets to fashion shows were able to watch it Virtually on their phones or on their desktops. The pandemic created ways for people to get together without having to leave their homes.

What advice would you give to someone who is struggling to find their own unique style and voice within the fashion industry?

Every unique style and voice should have a story behind it. Without a story, there’s no identity and you need an identity to have a unique style. For example: I’m a born artist but I was raised poor so because I couldn’t afford the popular name brands, I had to find clothes that were not popular name brands but the design of the clothing stood out to the public. That’s how I’ve learned to be creative.
